Visit Luxor and its temples

Pick up at the port by our English speaking guide with the Shore2Shore sign.

We will depart from Safaga port towards Luxor in a luxury air-conditioned vehicle, our journey will take approximately 3 hours.

Luxor, built on the ruins of the city of Thebes, was the capital of the New Empire of Ancient Egypt and Upper Egypt, is located on the eastern bank of the Nile River, is the city of the great temples of ancient Egypt (Luxor and Karnak), and the famous necropolis where the pharaohs and nobles were buried called the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens.

Our first stop will be at the temple of Karnak, the oldest known religious center in the world and a World Heritage Site; its ancient name Ipet-isut means "the holiest of places". Karnak is a huge open-air museum that displays important remains of Ancient Egyptian culture and is the third most visited site in Egypt, after the pyramids of Giza. It is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with other remains of ancient Thebes. The main temple was dedicated to the cult of the god Amun, but as in other Egyptian temples other divinities were also worshiped.

We will have free time for lunch (in case of private groups, we can arrange a lunch).

We will then drive to the west bank of the Nile River to visit the two statues of Amenhotep III, the so-called Colossi of Memnon, two gigantic stone statues of the pharaoh carved from blocks of quartzite, specially brought from Giza with a total height of eighteen meters.

From there we will approach the Valley of the Kings, popularly known by the Egyptians as Ta-sekhet-ma'at the "Great Field", where are the magnificent tombs where the kings of the XVIII, XIX and XX dynasties rest, as well as some queens like Hatshepsut, princes, and nobles. Carved deep into the desert rock, richly decorated and full of treasures for the afterlife of the pharaohs; we will visit 3 tombs among the Ramses l, lV, Vll, lX, Seti ll, Tawsert / Sethnakhte, Thutmosis lll, lV, Saptah, Horemoheb, Menttuherkhopshef, according to opening hours.

Our next stop will be at the Papyrus Museum, one of the most interesting places in all of Egypt on the papyrus industry and culture. All the paintings are handmade either painting or drawing; you can also contemplate and appreciate images of gods and many other figures.

We will end our tour with a visit to the funerary temple of Hatshepsut, known as "the sublime of the sublime" is located in the complex of Deir el Bahari, on the western bank of the Nile River and near the Valley of the Kings. This funerary temple was built in honor of Amon-Ra, the Sun God, and is located next to the funerary temple of Mentuhotep II. It is considered "one of the incomparable monuments of Ancient Egypt" and is dedicated to Queen Hatshepsut, the second female pharaoh, historically confirmed; a temple that rises in the desert plain on a series of stepped terraces that reach thirty meters in height.

We will then return to the port of Safaga for farewell.
