Nice and Eze alternative on F1 days

Shore excursion from port of Villefranche-sur-Mer, France

  • Duration 5h
  • Activity level low

What you'll do

Meeting at the port with our guide identified by the Shore2Shore sign.

We will leave the port of Villefranche and board the bus for a panoramic tour of the city of Nice, passing by the surroundings of Port Lympia, one of the oldest port facilities on the French Riviera. It hosts numerous yachts and pleasure boats. We will travel along part of the Promenade des Anglais until we reach the area where we will leave the bus.

We will stroll through the Albert I Gardens and arrive at Place Massena, the main square with its red facades and blue windows. Built following the model of Turin’s Piazza Vittorio Veneto and transformed several times over the years, Place Massena is today the center of social life in Nice, a very lively square where the large seven-meter-high statue of Apollo stands. Additionally, opaque statues of kneeling men representing the seven continents are placed on the sides, giving the square a modern touch.

We will pass in front of the Palace of Justice, built in neoclassical style at the end of the 19th century, the Opera House, and the Sainte Réparate Cathedral, patron saint of the city, until we reach the Cours Saleya, a street full of small shops and restaurants where the early flower and vegetable market takes place. Entrance to the market is free, and we can stroll among the Provençal stalls, typical specialties, but above all admire different types of plants and flowers. The market is closed on Mondays.

We will return to the bus parking area through the lively typical streets of the old town and, via a scenic road that will offer us a beautiful view of the Bay of Angels and also the wonderful Bay of Villefranche, we will arrive at the village of Èze, a marvelous medieval village overlooking the sea and the coast.

A fortified double gate from the 14th century allows us to enter the historic center of Èze, and from this moment we are catapulted back in time: we will let ourselves be carried away strolling through its narrow cobbled streets and picturesque alleys, which house charming bars, beautiful art galleries, and old noble houses. Here we can see the ruins of a medieval castle destroyed in an attack by the troops of Louis XIV, and from here we will enjoy spectacular views of the sea and mountains. Outside the walls, we will visit the historic French perfume factory Fragonard, to discover the secrets of producing the region’s best perfumes, soaps, and natural cosmetics.

We will have free time before returning to the port of Villefranche to embark.
