Visit Nice and Eze, alternative tour on F1 days
Shore excursion from port of Villefranche-sur-Mer, France
- Duration 5h
- Activity level low
What you'll do
Meeting at the port with our guide, identified with the Shore2Shore sign.
We will leave the port of Villefranche and board the coach to enjoy a panoramic tour of the city of Nice, passing by the surroundings of Port Lympia, one of the oldest port facilities on the French Riviera, home to numerous yachts and pleasure boats.
We will travel along part of the Promenade des Anglais until reaching the area where we will leave the coach.
We will walk through the Albert I Gardens until arriving at Massena Square, the main square with its red façades and blue windows. Built following the model of Vittorio Veneto Square in Turin and transformed many times over the years, Massena Square is today the centre of social life in Nice, a lively square where the large seven-metre statue of Apollo stands. Additionally, opaque statues of kneeling men representing the seven continents are placed on both sides of the square, giving it a modern touch.
We will pass in front of the Palace of Justice, built in neoclassical style at the end of the 19th century, the Opera House, and the Cathedral of Sainte Réparate, patron saint of the city, until reaching Cours Saleya, a street full of small shops and restaurants where the flower and early produce market takes place. Entrance is free, and we can stroll among the Provençal stalls, typical local specialities, and especially admire the variety of plants and flowers. The market is closed on Mondays.
We will return to the coach parking area through the lively narrow streets of the Old Town and, via a panoramic road offering beautiful views of the Bay of Angels and the marvellous Bay of Villefranche, we will arrive at the village of Eze, a wonderful medieval village overlooking the sea and coastline.
A double fortified gate from the 14th century allows us to enter the historic centre of Eze, taking us back in time: we will wander through its narrow cobblestone streets and picturesque alleys, home to charming cafés, beautiful art galleries, and ancient noble houses. Here we can see the ruins of a medieval castle destroyed during an attack by the troops of Louis XIV, and enjoy spectacular views of the sea and mountains. Outside the walls, we will visit the historic French perfume factory Fragonard, to discover the secrets behind the production of the region’s finest perfumes, soaps, and natural cosmetics.
You will have free time before returning to the port of Villefranche for embarkation.
