Rhodes and Lindos
Shore excursion from port of Rhodes, Greece
- Duration 6h
- Activity level low
What you'll do
Upon arrival of your cruise, you will be picked up by our guide at the port, identified by the Shore2Shore sign.
Lindos is the most attractive village on the island of Rhodes, with its famous Acropolis (visit and entrance optional, to be paid on site), traditional architecture and decoration of typical village houses, its beautiful beach, and the picturesque port of Agios Pavlos, where Saint Paul stopped on his way to Rome and blessed the village in the year 53 B.C.
You can reach the Acropolis on foot and we will visit the Great Stoa, which has been restored, as well as the Temple of Lindia Athena from the 4th century B.C. We will also visit the Ancient Theater and the remains of the Temple of Dionysus. The view from the Rock of the Acropolis is unique.
The village is very attractive due to its white houses with traditional interior decorations and its courtyards paved with black and white stones. Many of these buildings, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, have been officially cataloged and protected as ancient monuments.
On the way back, we will take a panoramic drive to admire Mount Smith (the upper acropolis of ancient Rhodes), named after Admiral Sir Sidney Smith who had his lookout there in the 19th century to monitor the movements of Napoleon’s fleet during the war against the Turks. We will continue to the Mandraki port, the place where, according to tradition, the so-called Colossus statue once stood, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. A huge copper statue representing the sun king holding a lit torch. One of its feet stepped on one side of the harbor entrance while the other stepped on the opposite side, and ships passed between its legs.
Arriving at the entrance of the Old Town of Rhodes, we will end the bus tour and begin a walking tour around the beautiful alleys. We will have the pleasure of visiting the Palace of the Grand Masters (optional entrance and unguided visit), the administrative center, and the Acropolis of the Knights (optional entrance and unguided visit). We will continue walking until we reach the Ancient Museum of Rhodes, also known as the Hospital of the Knights (optional unguided visit).
At the end of the tour, we will say goodbye to the guide and return to the port on our own, a pleasant walk of less than 5 minutes.
