What you'll do

Upon arrival of your cruise, pick-up at the port by our guide, identified with the Shore2Shore sign.

We will begin our excursion heading towards the Godafoss waterfall. The Waterfall of the Gods is located in northern Iceland near Akureyri and is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the country, not so much because of its height, which is 12 meters, but because of its beauty. According to legend, Godafoss is a “magical” place where the tribal chief declared Iceland’s conversion to Christianity and to confirm this, he threw the images of the pagan gods into the waters of this waterfall. The waterfall has a horseshoe shape split by a central rock, with water falling on both sides. The color of its waters, its location, and shape make Godafoss a must-see for those visiting Iceland. We will make a stop to admire the waterfall, the river, and take photographs of this magnificent panorama.

Our excursion will continue through the Vaethalaheidi tunnel towards the Christmas House in Hrafnagil, 10 minutes from Akureyri, inland from the fjord. Open all year round, this magical house looks like it was taken straight out of a fairy tale. Upon entering the Christmas House, we will be greeted by the warmth of a wood-burning fireplace and the songs and aromas of the Christmas holidays.

On the way back to Akureyri, we will have time for a final visit to the botanical garden, which, along with the one in Finland, is the northernmost botanical garden on the planet. Despite what might be expected given its latitude, here we find a representation of all the flora that populates Iceland and many others that are preserved fantastically thanks to Akureyri’s microclimate. The garden was founded in 1912 as a recreational place for the inhabitants of Akureyri and was the first public park in Iceland. In its early days, it was managed by a group of housewives called the “park society,” but from 1953 onwards, management passed to the municipality of Akureyri.

At the end of the excursion, return to the port for farewell.
