Upon your arrival at the port, the Shore2Shore guide will welcome you to begin this cultural tour. Founded by the Greeks in the 4th century BC and flourishing during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, Ancona became an important economic and strategic center thanks to the expansion of its port.
We will start our visit with a panoramic view from Monte Guasco, where we will stop to admire the majestic Cathedral of San Ciriaco (exterior visit), an architectural work that combines Romanesque, Byzantine, and Gothic styles, completed in the 12th century.
Ancona unfolds between its old town and the modern city, offering us a wide array of monuments ranging from Neoclassical to Baroque. In the historic center, we will tour emblematic places such as Santa Maria Square, the Bosdari Palace (now an art gallery, exterior visit), Plebiscito Square, Loggia Square with its theater (exterior visit), and Stracca Square, where the Palace of the Elders (exterior visit) and the Church of Jesus, a Neoclassical gem (exterior visit), are located.
The walk continues through Senate Square, the Roman amphitheater, and the Ferretti Palace, now an archaeological museum (exterior visit). Finally, we will arrive at Rome Square, home to the iconic Calamo Fountain or “Fontana delle 13 Cannelle”, adorned with thirteen bronze and stone spouts. According to tradition, drinking from this fountain ensures a return to the city.
With an approximate duration of 3 hours, this excursion will allow you to immerse yourself in the past and present of Ancona before comfortably returning to the port.
