What you'll do

Genoa, the capital of the charming Liguria region, is a city that grew tied to its port, coming to dominate the Mediterranean during the era of the Republic of Genoa. With its maritime air, alleys full of history, and a unique fusion of architectural styles, this city holds countless secrets, such as the birthplace of Christopher Columbus.

This excursion is ideal for cruise passengers arriving at the port of Genoa or Savona.

Upon your cruise arrival, our guide, identified with the Shore2Shore sign, will be waiting to start this fascinating bus tour. Our first stop will be the Belvedere of Castelletto, a privileged viewpoint offering a spectacular view of the old town and its most emblematic neighborhoods, such as Manin, Corvetto, Brignole, as well as the Victory Square and Dante Square, where the famous Columbus House is located.

From here, we will leave the bus to delve into the heart of Genoa. We will stroll along the elegant Via XX Settembre and the medieval alleys that led to the old Vegetable Market, until we reach the imposing Ducal Palace, former residence of the governors of the maritime republic.

On our route, we will admire the Church of Jesus (exterior visit) and the majestic Cathedral of San Lorenzo (exterior visit), Genoa’s most important temple, with its impressive combination of architectural styles spanning from the 11th to the 20th century.

Our next stop will be Ferrari Square, the commercial, economic, and financial center of the city. Here you can admire the Bronze Fountain, a symbol of the square, and the prestigious "Carlo Felice" Opera Theater.

We will continue to the iconic Via Garibaldi, formerly known as Strada Nuova. On this avenue, built over five centuries ago, stand elegant palaces that were residences of Genoese nobility. Due to its historical significance and exquisite architecture, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006.

To conclude our excursion, we will visit the Old Port, dating back to the 16th century and home to the Genoa Aquarium, one of the largest in Europe. Here our bus awaits to return to the cruise terminal, bringing to an end this tour of a city that combines history, sea, and culture in an unparalleled way.

We hope you have enjoyed this experience in Genoa and look forward to seeing you soon on a new adventure with Shore2Shore.
