Art Nouveau in Alesund and hike to Mount Aksla Viewpoint - Walking tour

Upon arrival, our Shore2Shore guide will welcome you at the port, ready to accompany you on a tour that will show you the best of this unique city.

Ålesund is a charming combination of fjords, majestic mountains, and early 20th-century architecture that has turned its historic center into a living exhibition of Art Nouveau style. Located on the northwest coast of Norway, the city spreads across three islands surrounded by the sea and framed by imposing mountain peaks.

We will discover how, after the devastating fire of 1904, Ålesund was rebuilt with elegance and modernity thanks to the support of Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany, who sent craftsmen to contribute to its revival. This effort resulted in a city with an unmistakable architectural identity.

We will begin our walking tour through the historic center, passing by the Art Nouveau Center, located in the old pharmacy building. Along the way, we will enjoy ornate facades, towers, floral details, and other characteristic elements of this artistic style. Additionally, we will learn about Ålesund’s importance as a fishing port and the largest fish exporting center in Norway.

Then, you can choose between two experiences:

• Climb the 418 steps of the city park up to the viewpoint of Mount Aksla, where you will enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the city, the islands, and the fjords. At the top, you can relax in a cozy café while taking in the scenery.

• Enjoy free time exploring the picturesque streets of Ålesund, shopping for souvenirs, or simply soaking up the charm of this wonderful city.

At the end of our excursion, we will return to the port to say goodbye.

• Medium Level/Panoramic/Cultural and Difficult Level for those who wish to climb to the viewpoint of Mount Aksla with the guide.
• It is recommended to wear comfortable footwear.
• Walking excursion.
• This excursion is NOT SUITABLE for people with reduced mobility, those who require the use of a wheelchair, or those traveling with baby strollers, due to the uneven terrain. Transportation for this tour is not adapted.

After disembarking and arriving at the main car park, look for a wooden bridge on the left.

After crossing the wooden bridge you will see another car park where our buses and guides will be waiting for you, in front of the Waterfront Hotel.

The boat company does not allow us to park and wait with a Shore2Shore sign in the main car park.

We are very easy to find once we cross the bridge to the bus park.
