Upon arrival at the port, your Shore2Shore guide will be waiting for you with an identifying sign to begin an unforgettable cultural and family excursion around this charming island.
We will start our adventure in Câmara de Lobos, a picturesque fishing village where Captain João Gonçalves Zarco settled in the early days of Madeira’s settlement. Its colorful boats and traditional atmosphere even inspired Winston Churchill, who immortalized this place in his paintings. Here you can taste the authentic Madeiran poncha, a typical drink you won’t want to miss.
Our route continues to the viewpoint of Pico dos Barcelos, at 335 meters altitude. From this spot, surrounded by flowers, you will enjoy an impressive 360º panoramic view of Madeira’s south coast and the city of Funchal.
Next, we will ascend to Eira do Serrado, an incomparable natural setting. From its viewpoint, we will admire the picturesque village of Curral das Freiras, nestled in a majestic caldera formed by erosion or, as some believe, by volcanic activity. The nearly vertical mountains and the green surroundings create a unique scene in the heart of the island.
On the way back to Funchal, we will take a panoramic tour of the “amphitheater” of the Bay of Funchal and stop at a cozy family establishment for a tasting of the famous Madeira wines and the traditional sugarcane honey cake.
Finally, we will stroll through the Old Town of Funchal, where you can admire the original painted doors of Santa Maria Street. With a final panoramic view of downtown Funchal, we will return to the port to conclude this experience full of history, culture, and nature.
We wish you an excellent excursion!
