Lanzarote, Jameos del Agua and the North Route
Shore excursion from port of Arrecife, Spain
- Duration 5h
- Activity level low
What you'll do
Our Shore2Shore Excursions guide will meet you at the port of Arrecife where we board an air-conditioned coach to take a guided tour of the north of Lanzarote.
We leave Arrecife the capital of the island and head towards Teguise the former old capital of the island, where we stop to admire the church and its quaint old cobbled streets and traditional houses.
After we head further north towards Los Valles and the highest point on the island where there are some wonderful viewpoints and we can look down on to the pretty town of Haría and a stunning palm grove known as the Valley of a Thousand Palms.
Continuing north through the local villages of Maguez and Ye towards the Mirador del Rio, a César Manrique designed viewing gallery, carved into the cliffs.
Near to here we can get the same vantage point to see the stunning views over to the island of Graciosa and the “Rio”, the stretch of sea between Lanzarote and the Chinijo Archipelago, including the islands of Montana Clara and Alegranza.
Passing close to the Mount Corona Volcano surrounding the area we arrive at the Jameos del Agua. This is a natural cave formed by volcanic activity from the Mount Corona and more recently styled by César Manrique – an attraction of undeniable beauty, also featuring a lagoon with blind white crabs, swimming pool, auditorium, seismology room, restaurant and bars.
We head back to Arrecife via the villages of Mala and Guatiza where we can see the cultivation of cactus for the cochineal beetle which is used as a natural dye.
We will then return to the port of Arrecife so you can re-join your ship for onward passage to your next port of call.
