Edinburgh City Tour

Shore excursion from port of Leith or South Queensferry, United Kingdom

  • Duration 8h
  • Activity level low

What you'll do

Pickup upon arrival of your cruise at the port by our guide, identified with the Shore2Shore sign.

We will begin our excursion by transferring from the port to the city center of Edinburgh.

We will take a panoramic walk through the New Town, an 18th-century World Heritage Site, and also through the Old Town (walking tour).

In the New Town, we will see: Charlotte Square, George Street, the house of Robert Louis Stevenson and the Arthur Conan Doyle district, Saint Mary’s Cathedral, St Andrews Square (access can sometimes be difficult due to trams) and the area of the major banks.

Next, we will enter the old town area passing through Princess Street and the gardens, the museums, and the monument to Sir Walter Scott.

If time permits, we will climb Calton Hill, the best place to enjoy the landscape of the Forth Estuary and see the panoramic view of the city.

Then we will arrive at Abbey Strand and Canongate, where Edinburgh’s oldest street, the Royal Mile, begins and where the new Scottish Parliament is located.

We will also take a panoramic view of Holyrood Palace in Holyrood Park, with its extinct volcano Arthur’s Seat.

Important note: if it rains, Calton Hill could be replaced by Arthur’s Seat hill; this is done by bus and also offers excellent panoramic views.

After the bus tour and the visit to the castle (exterior), we will begin our walking tour of the city with our guide, where we will enjoy free time for lunch (not included).

We will reach the heart of the old town where the Saint Giles Cathedral is located. Our guide will provide explanations about the cathedral and we will learn how Scotland became a Protestant country. Free time to visit the cathedral on your own and for lunch in the Mercat Cross area before returning to the port for farewell.

IMPORTANT: From April 2, 2025, European visitors will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to travel to Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Before traveling, it is recommended that you contact the cruise line or consult the official British Government website for updated information (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/visiting-the-uk-as-an-eu-eea-or-swiss-citizen).
